Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) Alumni Association (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of its alumni and website users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal data when you interact with our website or services.
References in this policy to “we”, “us”, or “the Association” are references to JABU Alumni Association. References to “you” in this policy refers to any natural person who visit our website
- Scope of Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to all data collected through our website and services. It does not apply to information collected offline or via other channels than this website.
By using our website, you consent to the practices described in this Policy. This Policy may change from time to time, and continuing to use the Services after receiving notice will constitute acceptance of the changes.

- Full name, title, gender, date of birth

- Education and employment history
- Alumni engagement details
- Your familial relationships to facilitate their participation in events and programmes.
- Payment and donation records (excluding card details)
- Photographs and media content created by and about you.

- Nationality, race, ethnicity, religious affiliation (where provided voluntarily)
c. Device and Usage Data
- Browser type, IP address, operating system, device information, referral pages, cookies, location data, navigational data and website usage patterns
Collectively, Personal Information and Non-Personal Information shall be referred to as “Information.”
You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you might not be able to take advantage of some features or services we offer. Periodically, we may ask you to confirm the accuracy of your information so we may improve our services and activities.

- If you were a student or studied at Joseph Ayo Babalola University, some of your personal data is transferred from your student record into our databases.

- For donor recognition, unless you request otherwise.

Your personal data may be processed and stored in locations outside your jurisdiction, where data protection laws may differ.
- Payment Processing
We may provide paid products and/or services within the Service. In that case, we may use third-party services for payment processing. We will not store or collect Your payment card details. That information is provided directly to Our third-party payment processors whose use of your personal information is governed by their Privacy Policy. These payment processors adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS, whose requirements help ensure the secure handling of payment information.
- Automated Decision-Making (Profiling)
We do not make automated decisions about you that may significantly affect you, without consent, legal requirement, or contract necessity.

We retain your information to the extent permitted by applicable laws, as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and to protect the Association’s legal rights. Aggregated and anonymized data may be retained indefinitely, to protect the safety and security of our sites, and to improve the services we provide to you.

We have taken steps to protect the information that is under our control in order to prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure its appropriate use. We however cannot guarantee absolute security due to inherent risks.

We use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to enhance user experience, analyse website usage, and provide personalized content. Third parties may also use these technologies on our site for advertising purposes. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. If you disable or delete certain Cookies or Related Technologies in your settings, you may not be able to use features on our websites or those features may not function as designed.
- Third-Party Websites
We try to link only to sites and services that share our high standards and respect for privacy, moreover, the Association is not responsible for the policies and content of those sites. Users should contact the coordinator of the particular site with any questions about those sites. You shall hold us non-liable from any losses you accrue as a result of any purchase made from a third-party website.
- Changes To This Policy
We can change, modify, or remove content and even discontinue the site at any time without notice or liability. We’re not obligated to update information, and we’re not responsible for any losses due to site downtime. We’ll notify you of policy changes by updating the “Last updated” date, and your continued use means you accept these changes. This policy is effective as of June 8, 2025.
- Intellectual Property Rights
The site, its content (source code, databases, designs, etc.), and trademarks are our exclusive property or licensed to us, protected by intellectual property laws. You can only use the site and download content for personal, non-commercial use. Any other use, including copying, reproducing, or distributing for commercial purposes, requires our express written permission. We retain all rights not explicitly granted to you.
- User Responsibilities

We also reserve the right to pursue legal action.
- Submissions
You acknowledge and agree that any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you provide (Submissions) become our sole property. We can use and disseminate these Submissions for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, without acknowledging or compensating you. You waive all moral rights to your Submissions and confirm you have the right to submit them.
- Limitations of Liability
We are not liable for any direct, indirect, consequential, exemplary, incidental, special, or punitive damages, including financial or data loss, arising from your use of the site, even if we’ve been advised of such possibilities. Our total liability to you will be limited to the lesser of the amount paid by you. Some jurisdictions may not allow these limitations, so they might not fully apply to you.
- Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from any loss, damage, liability, claims, or expenses (including attorney fees) made by third parties due to your use of the site, breach of these terms, violation of third-party rights (including intellectual property), or any harmful act towards other users. We may, at your expense, take over the defense of any such claims.
- Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
This policy and your use of the Site are governed by and construed in accordance with the Nigerian laws, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
- Mediation & Negotiations
To expedite resolution and control the cost of any dispute related to this policy (each “Dispute” and collectively, the “Disputes”) brought by either you or us (individually, a “Party” and collectively, the “Parties”), the Parties agree to first attempt to mediate and negotiate any Dispute (except those Disputes expressly provided below) for at least thirty (30) days before initiating arbitration. Such negotiations commence upon written notice from one Party to the other Party.
- Binding Arbitration
If this provision is found to be illegal or unenforceable, then neither Party will elect to arbitrate any Dispute falling within that portion of this provision found to be illegal or unenforceable, and such Dispute shall be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction, and the Parties agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of that court.
- Restrictions
The Parties agree that any arbitration shall be limited to the Dispute between the Parties individually. To the full extent permitted by law, (a) no arbitration shall be joined with any other proceeding; (b) Class actions are not permitted.
- Rights under the Applicable Data Protection Law in relation to your Personal Data.
- Right To Notice: This Privacy Policy details how we collect and process your Personal Data in compliance with the Applicable Data Protection Law (Nigeria).
- Right to access: You can request a copy of your data and verify its lawful processing. We may ask for security information to confirm your identity. We may charge a reasonable fee for complex or repeated requests. We try to respond to all legitimate requests within one month. Occasionally it could take us longer than a month, in this case, we will notify you and keep you updated.
- Right of rectifying: This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about you corrected. Once we receive and confirm your request, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to correct (and direct our Service Providers to correct) your personal information, unless an exception applies.
- Right to deletion: You have the right to request the deletion of your Personal Data under certain circumstances, subject to certain exceptions. Once we receive and confirm your request, we will delete (and direct Our Service Providers to delete) your personal information from our records, unless an exception applies.
- Right to object the processing: You can object to processing based on legitimate interests, unless we have compelling grounds to continue.
- Right of data portability: You can ask us to transfer your data to a third party, in a machine-readable format. Please note that this right only applies to automated personal data which you initially provided consent for us to use.
- Right to withdraw consent to processing: You can withdraw consent for data processing, where your consent is required, this may affect our ability to provide services. Withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew your consent.
- Right to restrict processing: You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
- Right to object to processing: You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

- General Provisions
This policy is the entire agreement between us. Our failure to enforce any right doesn’t waive it. This policy is enforceable to the fullest extent of the law. We can assign our rights and obligations. We’re not liable for delays or failures beyond our reasonable control. If any part of this policy is found unlawful, it won’t affect the validity of the remaining provisions. There’s no joint venture, partnership, employment, or agency relationship created. You agree not to construe this policy against us for drafting it, and you waive defenses based on its electronic form or lack of physical signatures.
